Job description

The mission of Prep for is to identify and nurture a generation of leaders from minority group backgrounds who have the education, the skills, and the commitment to help guide this society towards a significant narrowing of the gap between the rhetoric of the American Dream and its blemished reality. As a strategy for developing leaders from minority groups, Prep for Prep 9 seeks to identify those boys and girls who are most likely to benefit from attending academically demanding boarding schools. The program attempts to prepare these youngsters for success at such schools and to instill in them a commitment to educational achievement as a means of developing their leadership potential.

 

Prep for Prep has recently launched a strategic initiative to improve our technology environment; the goal is to support existing needs and identify areas of that could use improvement and efficiency.

 

Prep seeks to hire a Project Manager to identify these areas and implement solutions. The Project Manager will be responsible for working with Prep IT staff to develop a project plan for the implementation of new technology solutions, and to ensure the timely completion of the project phases and the successful completion of the technology project.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•     Develop project plan, defining activities and responsibilities for the duration of the project and integrating the separate phases of the plan with Prep for Prep program activities

•     Write detailed functional and technical specifications of business user needs

•     Implement project plan, via database and layout design, hands-on scripting, and security administration

•     Communicate clearly and build good working relationships with business users; ensure coordination internally between Prep departments and IT

•     Focus on developing and improving business processes and delivering desired functionality to users

•     Identify the internal and external risks of the project; manage the activities to mitigate those risks, and make recommendations to IT regarding changes to the project

•     Plan and facilitate test case preparation and user training

•     Responsible for critical areas of work, their integration, and for overall success of the project

•     Evaluate the completed work and control the quality of end-products

REQUIREMENTS

•     Solid comprehension of FileMaker scripting and design

•     Project management experience

•     Solid comprehension of web-based and database-driven applications

•     Understanding of how technology can enable business growth and change; ability to think creatively about how technologies can be applied to business needs

•     Experience working in multiple departments with users of all skill levels

•     Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work productively with others

•     Ability to work with business users to define, develop, and prioritize technology requirements

•     Ability to convey technology concepts to business users, to show strengths and weaknesses of potential solutions, and to enable staff to make reasoned assessments of technology solutions

•     Ability to work in a detail-oriented, organized, and methodical manner

•     Good communication skills

•     Experience working in education in a management role a plus

Salary: Commensurate with experience

Location: New York, New York

Type: Contract

Duration: Approximately 6 months
