HarryGlos Posted January 23, 2002 Posted January 23, 2002 I recently downloaded the new "FileMaker Solution Framework" from the FileMaker Web sight. I would like to know what you think about it as a template to build a custom solution. Comming from FileMaker I know it has to be an excellent solution. But is it what you would use as the starting point for desinging your own custome solution? Thanks for your input. Harry

Harry First, you must do an analysis of the business issues you want the database to address. Second, you must construct a paper model of what you're intending with the appropriate relationships among files identified. Third, then and only then can you answer the question of whether these templates are right for your situation. I recommend your getting the Coulombre book from Amazon: Special Edition Using FIleMAker Pro 5. It deals with these issues at great lengyth. HTH Old Advance Man
SteveB Posted January 24, 2002 Posted January 24, 2002 Don't give FM too much credit...I believe the Framework belongs to John Mark Osborne of www.databasepro.com fame and it is so good that FM stuck it out on its website. You also have to factor in the learning experience and the time necessary to modify someone else's scripts and techniques. From my looking at it, it is a very complete and sophisticated solution.
Vaughan Posted January 24, 2002 Posted January 24, 2002 Where on the FMI site is this "framework" found? Thanks
SteveB Posted January 24, 2002 Posted January 24, 2002 I think it can be found with the other templates
Anatoli Posted February 12, 2002 Posted February 12, 2002 Fitch I like the "Ratings? Who cares about ratings?" very much Vaughan will be happy
Vaughan Posted February 12, 2002 Posted February 12, 2002 Anatoli Shhhhh! I'm ignoring Fitch's inappropriate attention-getting behaviour. Vaughan (I like this place!)
Anatoli Posted February 13, 2002 Posted February 13, 2002 I know it is hard to please you and you are not falling for cheap tricks I am going to bed -- do you have morning there?
Vaughan Posted February 13, 2002 Posted February 13, 2002 I'm having lunch! Home-made Thai Mussaman curry with jasmine rice -- leftovers fom last night. Yummmmmmy!
Fitch Posted February 13, 2002 Posted February 13, 2002 The framework looks very cool, but it keeps crashing, as in locking up my Mac completely when I get into the preferences. I'm pretty sure the Menu file is the culprit, or the Setup. Anyone else had problems? G3/9.1/5.5
