Amending Related Value list on the fly

I have a database for my cabinet shop that has two fields:  ACCOUNT & TASK.

ACCOUNT is populated with a drop-down value list.

TASK is a value list that only uses related values from ACCOUNT

For example:

ACCOUNT: Doors yields possible tasks of:

TASK:  Cut lumber, sand lumber, glue lumber

ACCOUNT: Drawers yields possible tasks of:

TASK:  Install hardware, Install drawer Face, Drill handle hole.

Is there a way to make TASK an editable field,  i.e., when I click into task be presented with related values but also be able to add a value on ad hoc basis?

A field formatted as a drop-down list is still "an editable field". If you click twice into the field, the second click will close the list and allow you to type any ad-hoc value you wish. Alternatively, select the 'Include arrow to show and hide list' option when formatting the field - click into the field without clicking the arrow, and again you are free to type in anything you wish.

With a pop-up menu, you can select the 'Allow entry of other values' option. This will add a "Other..." value to the existing list, and selecting it will open a box to enter the custom value.

If the list uses custom values

I think the question makes it quite clear that's not the case here.

Thanks for the input guys.

I was able to create a drop down list that proposed values from a related table and could populate a second value list predicated on contents from the first value list.

I was also able to amend either one of these lists on an ad hoc basis but for some reason the "Allow editing of of value list" option was (and still is) dimmed out on the data inspector.

I know know this is a curious set of events but at least it is working.

So thanks again greatly!
