Sharing Database

I need to build/Share a database. I've got FM5 (Mac and PC) and one other user here, out of the 4 that will need to share this data, as an older version.

1. With so few users, do I need to get FM Server, or can we simply set up one machine to host the data? The usage will be very low, with each photographer updating data one record at a time as a shot is completed, maybe 10 times a day.

2. Will the web companion allow us to build a solution on one system and have that host it as web pages to the others...or is that worth more trouble than a few CAL's would cost us to do it the other way?

Thanks thrill seekers!

No. You should be just fine. FM lets up to 10 (I may be wrong in this number but I know it's more than four) users access a database. Just set up one machine to share the files and it acts, in essence, as your server.

I'm not sure on this one, perhaps you could clarify it (the question) a bit more.

Filemaker Pro client application will host to 10 unique IP addresses in any given 12 hour period, so you should have no problem with the additional user connecting.

Only use Web Companion if you want to deploy your database to the web. Do not look at it like a way to get around additional client licensing. It is simply not work the trouble or the cost.
