FileMaker Unlimited 2 questions

Featured Replies

1. Can FMP Unlimited be made to "run as a service" under Windows 2000?

2. If FileMaker Unlimited becomes disconnected from the FMP server hosting the databases, can it be made to automatically re-connect?

Q1: I believe so - but being a Mac head I wouldn't know (or care smile.gif ) how you go about it exactly.........have a look at (end of acticle):

http://www.lassodev.com/lasso3/notes/FMLasso.html

Also includes instructions on how to make a reboot database and a downloadable example

Q2: I can't think of any easy way to do this, unless the OS crashes aswell.

I have set FMServer not to disconnect idle users.....my last reboot was december and I haven't had any disconnections - if you're set up properly don't worry about it - it is such a rare occurance.

good luck

I think really what you are asking is can I run a FileMaker database as a service.

See the srvany.exe tool from the Windows 2000 Resource Kit. It allows applications to run as services. I'm not sure how you would get it to open your database file as well but if you get this to work please post back.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish with running Filemaker Unlimited as a service?
