Newbies Marcel Posted May 19, 2002 Newbies Posted May 19, 2002 Dear reader, After working with Filemaker for 3 years it's time to have databases connected to the internet. The targed is to create a very simple web page without high graphics and things. From this page it must be possible to create an order with spare parts out of a list of 65000 different records. Something like a shopping cart but then very simple. Now i'm not shure if it can be done with filemaker and webcompanion only. I tried to create a very simple page but found that it was not possible to enter a partnumber and press a button with a script. Do i need other software or can this be done with filemaker itself. Marcel
Keith M. Davie Posted May 19, 2002 Posted May 19, 2002 "I tried to create a very simple page but found that it was not possible to enter a partnumber and press a button with a script. "Do i need other software or can this be done with filemaker itself. " With custom web publishing (cdml/html) it is possible to enter a partnumber and press a button with a script. However there are some issues around ScriptMaker. You can research the cdml forum and you can visit my site for more about ScriptMaker on the web. To do a basic find of one part number should not require a script. If you do not have the cdml reference database you need it and you can get it from filemaker.com. If you are using the examples provided by FileMaker for CWP you will probably encounter many problems since their examples oten are filled with errors and incomplete information. Same with the cdml tool.
Garry Claridge Posted May 19, 2002 Posted May 19, 2002 You should be able to achieve the shopping-cart style order with FM and WC alone. A little bit of Javascript may also be worthwhile. Maybe start with a "Parts" search page. This should give you the basics, from there you can work towards the shopping-cart. All the best. Garry
Anatoli Posted May 19, 2002 Posted May 19, 2002 We are running 2 shopping carts on our FMU plus another 5 heavy duty applications. FM is handling this with grace and we are not using scripts at all.
