Daniel Shanahan Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 I'm accessing a database (FMPro 5.5 Unlimited) we have on a PC (a Dell unit) through the internet. I'm accessing it through a Mac laptop, G3 OS9 and using IE5. Some of the fields have pull down menus. When I use them I get a "No records were found" message, even though the value list for the pull down is from the same field. When I turn off the pull down and make it a regular field and enter criteria, the search is successful. I would really like to have our clients see the options (i.e. view a pull down or pop up menu). Is there any way to do this? Thanks. Dan
The Bridge Posted May 23, 2002 Posted May 23, 2002 Can I see your form? That would help -Find a solution.
Keith M. Davie Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 First, have a layout devoted to your web solution. Second, have your field formatted as "Standard" Third, us an html valuelist for your pop-up or drop-down. Fourth, others will probably disagree with this method and suggest how to do it using the fmp-valuelist.
Daniel Shanahan Posted May 24, 2002 Author Posted May 24, 2002 Here is the database. I've copied it, so that MediaCatalog is with the pull downs and MediaCatalog2 is without. http://207.43.111.253:591/ Thanks. Dan
Daniel Shanahan Posted May 24, 2002 Author Posted May 24, 2002 Thanks Keith. I do have a devoted layout for the web and in the MediaCatalog2 all the fields are Standard rather than pull-down. However, I'm not sure what an "html valuelist" is. Can you elaborate? Thanks. Dan
The Bridge Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 Ah, you're using Instant Web Publishing. I have heard of many instances of valuelist problems -- among others -- with IWP (the "I" could also stand for Infuriating) Your best bet would be to learn CDML and design your own interface using a combination of CDML and HTML. You can download a CDML reference from the FileMaker web site; otherwise, I'm afraid I can't be of much help. Sorry!
Keith M. Davie Posted May 24, 2002 Posted May 24, 2002 I am refering to the code in html which is used for check-boxes, radio buttons and pop-up lists. Unless you go to CWP from IWP, it doesn't really matter. Otherwise you have the choice of using the html format with standard fields or the cdml fmp-valuelist tags which relate to db formatted valuelist fields. If you do go with CWP (most contributors here ultimately do) you should be sure to get the cdml reference db from filemaker's web site. Good luck to you.
