i notice that using the URL script the browser ( at least safari) requires the pop up prefs turned off. Since I'm only directing to another web page is there a way to not trigger the browser's objection.

It's this way in chrome as well.  As long as you're not too concerned about SSL you might be able to get away with a web viewer, but any navigation away from the solution is going to open a new tab and afaik there is no way to hijack the browsers anti pop-up window controls.
