ok if you have files open via FM server 5, can you have the same files available for use with online access. can i use those files and make them available via the web and cdml.

this has been troubling me fro some time.

In short -- yes, no problem

You need to be aware of the security issues invloved with using your LAN FMServer for your online stuff ...... get yourself a decent firewall and make sure you know how to set it up correctly. There are certain ports you do not want available to the outside world but are needed for internal connectivity like port 5003 which is the port used by Filemaker to connect to host - you'll want to block this port to all incomming traffic apart from your webserver -

All this of course means nothing when you read the RISKS section of this

The long and short of it is be very careful when putting your company information and entire network in the reach of people that could be using tools like above. There are no security systems that will defend you against a determined attack if you leave doors open.
