Moving FMP database from Mac to Linux web server

Hi, this may be a very ignorant question to ask, but I'm not proud.

Using Filemaker Server running on Linux, could I take an FMP file from a Mac (OS9) and easily transfer it to a Linux web server.

Currently I'm hosting a site on a Linux Server and using a port through to a Mac set up to serve an FMP database, but this is Slooow. I'm wondering if running FMP Server on the Linux server would speed this up and still allow the physical movement of the updated database from the admin's Mac to the Linux Server.

Thanks for any help/advice.

Niall
