How do I do a subtotal on a group of related items. For example, if I have a field called ItemNo that has an amount field for that record and I want to subtotal the amount for that item number, how do I do this?

Does anyone know of a way to "group" a set of feilds so that when i print a layout this group does not split over a page! I need to use sliding printing and each set of feilds varies in length.

This is for FMP 5. I'm not sure if it applies to lower versions. If you want to force proper formatting for telephone number so that they appear as: (555)888-9999, but you don't want to make the user enter the paraentheses and hyphen every time this how to do it. You need two fields, a text field and a calculation field. The idea is that the user enters the phone number into the text field as a string: 5558889999. The calculation field takes this string of numbers and inserts the formatting. Is there a way to create a find that will find any record by the first letter of the field? Example: I need to find all records beginning with the letter "A" in a certain field.

Hi there I have got a problem with my database on the web. Ive got a field that has contains track titles. The complete list shows up in filemaker but on the web the field is cut short. I'm using filemaker4.1 and lasso 3.5 Do you know how to solve this problem. thanks all. nikolai

When I import .jpg files into a Filemaker container field the size of the images increases to about 13 times the actual size as it enters the database. I have my document preferences set to 'store compatible graphics'. And when I import, I make sure that 'store only a reference to the file' is unchecked. I am trying to publish a database of images as a gallery online. Each record contains 5 images (4 at 8k each and 1 at 16k to 18k = a total of 58k). When I import the images into FMP, the size of a single record in the DB is almost 800K and every record I add thereafter (containing the 5 images) adds another 730K to the total file size! I have a database of students in an honors program, and some have volunteered to be mentors for incoming students. I'm trying to get a dynamic valuelist of the mentors. I've got a script that will find all the mentors and open the value list window, but I can't get the information into the list. The alternative I am exploring is trying to export the mentor records to another database and generating the list off of that database, which is a built-in function of the list window Thanks in advance, qntgeek

Hi, Here's the situation: I have two databases which are linked on a unique ID. Db1 contains person information while db2 contains their reported problems. Each person can have lots of problems (don't we all!). I'd like to take the problems and concatenate them into a single field in db1. Something like: problem / problem/ problem. I'm not sure how to do this. It can't be a look up because the generated concatenation has to be updated constantly. Also the addition of a problem to the concatenation has to be conditional, somthing like: if (problem is active) then add to concatenation. It would look like this: NOTXX/YYYY H where XX is a number given by the user and YYYY the value of a global field. I've tryed something like this in a Set Field sentence: "NOT" & FieldXX & "/" & FieldYYYY & " H" but I get this: XXYYYY H NOT and / get lost in the way but H doesn't Why? I don't know. I am taking data from one db to another to another. In the process, as the data moves from db 2 to db 3, the record in db 2 is i deleted by script when the new record is created in db 3. That works fine and good when the user makes the appropriate response in a timely fashion. (The db's are being acted upon by cdml tags - it is a web application.) The problem is if the user must leave the application before clicking on the button which causes the described action between db's 2 and 3 above. There is no way for the user to get back to the record in db 2 without entering through db 1, which creates the record in db 2. So a record is created which will not be deleted an…
