  1. Hi Folks, Our IT folk are trying to move from a Mac OS 9 based FM Server (5.5) to a Mac OS X (10.2.8) based FM Server (5.5). In our initial testing when we try to serve one folder containing 12 files to the Mac OS X based FM Server, only 9 of the 12 files are available when viewed from a remote machine. Yet when I copy the same folder to my Mac OS X (10.2.8) mac, I can serve them via my single user FileMaker Pro (6) just fine. i.e. all 12 files appear when accessed from a remote machine. Is there some 'known' issue unknown to me? Thanks in advance. Peter Deakin University Australia
  2. Both FMP Server 5.5 and Unlimited 5.5 machines are running on G4/800 with Mac OS 9.2.2
  3. Hi Again, I forgot to say that when the user selects the option A,B or C, this value gets inserted into the vehicle_type field and then the user is taken to the next appropriate form. At this stage I'm thinking of either using a drop-down menu or radio buttons with a 'Next' button. Thanks Again, Peter
  4. I am fairly new to Filemaker and I am trying to create a web form for a database that is hosted on FMP Server 5.5, then shared on the web via a Mac running FMP Unlimited 5.5. For example: Let's say I want to enter information for vehicles into the one database. When the user selects vehicle type A,B or C, they are then taken to a different 'form' essentially a different layout of the same database but only showing fields related to the type of vehicle they have. The basic page would look like this: =============================================== Enter your name: [____________] Enter your userid: [___________] What type of vehicle do you have: (A) Car (: Bus © Motorbike =============================================== After they enter a few pages of information, I would then want them to submit the form. My questions are: (A) can I do this solely within Filemaker? (I have a version 6 client I edit the databases with) (: How do I submit the form © Do I need to use XML? If so, where are some good sources for people new using Filemaker with XML? (Or simply some places to learn XML online.) I don't mind reading and experimenting but could do with a hand getting pointed in the right direction. (D) If I have to use XML would using Dreamweaver MX be of any help? Any help greatly appreciated. Regards, Peter
  5. Thanks Chuck, I think I will go with option 1, I just wish it was cheaper to upgrade than it is. Regards Peter
  6. Chuck, thanks for your reply. What's the best way for me to move ahead? Just buy individual upgrades? PB
  7. I have inherited a large production/scheduling database running on FMP server 3. There are approximately 25 users (out of 90) with a mixture of FMP v3 & v4. Of these only 5 users do any developing/modifying of the existing databases, the rest just use FMP to view the databases. More of my users require access to the database and as ver 3 & 4 licences are hard to come by (unless you are prepared to bid on eBay etc.) I have decided to bite the bullet and upgrade to ver 5. My question is: Is it feasible for me to: (a) Buy FMP 5 Developer then convert all existing v3 databases (on the FMP server) to v5 and to create run-time versions so that more staff have access to the databases and... ( Buy 5x ver 5 upgrades so that the 5 "power" users can still make changes to the core parts of the databases as needed Any tips welcome. Regards, PB
  8. Thanks ZuperZZ Obviously this "Binder" didn't come with the normal FMP ver 3 (or 4) software. Is there anywhere that might still sell the "developer" ver 3 or 4? We have licenced 30 copies of ver 3 plus ver 3 server and don't want to upgrade to 5 (just yet.) As for the runtime not working over the network, we bought a FMP database solution from a company for our designers and they have the main database files residing on the server then distribute a runtime version to all the designers who then access the data on the server via these runtime files. Hence my original quesion.
  9. Can someone please point me in the right direction... we have FM PRO Server and I just want to make a run time player so some of my staff can access the FMP server. (1) Is this possible (2) Is there any online help somewhere Thanks
