I'd also really like to know this. Thanks.

Ah, got that covered now too. Cool.

Thanks much. For whatever reason I can't select it as all the other options are greyed out, but I'll figure it out. Thanks again, Matt

Here is my layout in FM5 and how I would like it printed: and here is what it looks like printed: I've looked around and I can't believe I haven't found an answer for this. Can anyone help out? Thanks! Matt

Thanks much. I can't believe I spent so much time messing around with Lasso when all I needed was the WSD.
-
I used those a while back, but I was under the impression that they were strickly for Filemakers built in web publishing, and not for use with custom cdml made pages. Am I mistaken?

Hi Guys, I'm new to Lasso 7, lemme get that out of the way. I currently have two databases hosted on-line that incorporate CDML. Whereas in the past I could leave these pages unprotected on-line, it's become apparent that I will need to up security on them, which has lead me to Lasso. I've been friddling with it the last day or so and I think I have the basics of it down to some degree. I'm at the point though where I would like to use a login/pass popup for my on-line databases as a security measure. Here is where I'm hung up. Will I need to convert the CDML to LDML on said pages? Create these usernames and passwords using the Lasso Administration tools? Can someone please point me in the right direction? I would be extremely greatful! Thanks Much Matt

Can't edit records from the browser
DrugBust replied to DrugBust's topic in Other Internet Technologies
It ended up being a format issue. Apparently there is a bug in the program a guy at filemaker told me. I changed the layout and I could all of the sudden edit. Wow... -
Browser can't find the database...
DrugBust replied to DrugBust's topic in Other Internet Technologies
It was the proxy server. We put it on an IP outside the proxy and it works. Kinda -
In my database I allow all users, groups and passwords to edit existing records, but I use instant web pub, and although there is an edit button, when I edit a record and click save I get a msg saying I don't have rights to do that. Bleh, anyone know a reason why this happens?

Hmmm....I used to be working on a database using Instant Web Publishing and it worked fine. But I got frustrated when I started having problems with it and stopped using it for a while, Anyways, I came back to it and I no longer view the page on-line. It won't find it. My problem is that I can't remember enough about the program to troubleshoot it. I don't know if I changed a setting on it or something, but whatever happened it won't go on-line. I have Web Companion setup, and the lugins are all turned on. I have it set up to share over TCP/IP...I just can't think of any reason why it isn't working. One thing I suspect might be a problem is that in between the last time I used it and now is that our district installed a proxy server to filter web content. So no computer can access the net unless the proxy addy is set on that machine and the port is changed. Might that be a problem? I changed the port number on the Web Companion Configuration menu, but that still doesn't work. This prolly is reading like greek to you guys, but if anyone can help I would be very greatfull. Thanks much Matt

Why won't it ask for a password?!?!?

I bet that's the problem. You rule!! That was the problem!! I got rid of the no pass option and sure enough I got the password protection I wanted. Thi shas been my main problem for the last 2 weeks and ya just solved it. Thanks much Matt -
Why won't it ask for a password?!?!?
DrugBust replied to DrugBust's topic in Other Internet Technologies
Well, then I guess answer this one: I want to restrict fields in Web Sec Databasee to certain users. Ecah iwth different restrictions. In WSD, it seems like I can only restrict fields for only one group, or have all groups have the same field restrictions. If this would work, then I'd say WSD isn't really lame. Till then... -
I'm using Filemaker Pro Access Privileges. The Web Security Database is lame and doesn't work with what I need. Instant Web Publishing is enabled. I have all my groups and layouts and passwords set up. But, when the users click on the database, it never asks them for a password, so all my gorups and passes and layouts are useless! Do any of you guys have any idea about what I'm doing wrong?
-
The thing I liked about the Web Security Database was the password protection on-line. So when they clicked on a database a pop up window came up asking for a password. Will filemaker do the same? I can't seem to get that working.
-
Do the access privileges I make in my database for multiple groups and passwords still work when I use the Web Security Database? They don't seem to...
-
put different field restrictions on for different users? If I put on field restrictions for one user, it seems like it does it for all of the users. Hrrrrmmmm...

I'm having the same problem with logging out on my database using the Web Security DB. People all accross the school district are going to be using this, but I can't have access to the database left open on all the the public computers. If there is any "logout" option i'd love to know about it

Thanks scratch, that does help me.

Thanks for the help on the previous topic but a lot of it went right over my head. I wanna make this question and answer in the simplest of terms: I have 5 Layouts on one database. A teacher layout, a LMC layout, a principal layout, a manager layout, and a tech layout. Under the default view, everyone can see and edit everything. I want to have an on-line password for each layout, so that for example, when an elementary school principal wants access to his layout in the database, they go to a layout where they can see all the other records, but they're only able to edit the fields I want them to because they're on their own layout. Can I use 5 different layouts somehow on-line using 5 different passwords? This is really the problem I've having problems with. The database seems to work fine offline, the groups and passwords work just how I want them to. It's when I put it on-line that it never gives me the same option to enter a password to view and edit records. I hope this post makes more sense to you wonderful experts than my last one! But thanks for the hlep you've given so far. I just wish I was resourful enough with this program so I could follow it. [ May 30, 2001: Message edited by: DrugBust ]

I've made a database (FMP5) for use with multiple groups of people. I set groups and passwords for each group, because I only want certain groups to view and edit certain things. This works fine when I'm not sharing or if I were only using one computer for all of these groups. But I'm serving this page over a dedicated IP on a school district, and I need the same type of functionality over the internet. For instance, if I want only teachers to view and edit a certain record, how do do that? Same with LMC staff, and Principals accross the district. They should only be able to access my dataase over the net and enter certain information, and not be able to mess with the other records. I have it set up using Web Companion and it works, but like I said, everyone can edit evreything, when I want to have certain things left unavailiable to certain people. can I do this on-line using passwords? I'm REALLy new at filemaker, and I'm in serious need of help. I've been everywhere trying to find an answer to this but I can't find any help. So please, any advice would be greatly appreciated. THANKS!! [ May 24, 2001: Message edited by: DrugBust ]
