I would like to create a forum

Featured Replies

Hi,

I would like to create a forum with FM. But what I want is the people who participate to the forum can write her message directly in a e-mail software (ex.: Outlook, Eudora, etc...) and after they have sent the message at the e-mail adress of the forum, the database in FM receive it and post it directly on the web.

I know, I have to create a special web page to treat the e-mail, but did you think it's possible to send a e-mail directly in a FM database? Before, I use forms in my forums. It's easy to use and people just have to write her message, click the "send" button and the FM database treat it and post it directly on the web. But it is possible to do not use a form and only the e-mail?

Thank!

I tried doing this years ago. It's not easy because an interface is needed that imports the e-mail messages into FMP automatically upon receipt. You end up doing twice as much work offering two interfaces when one good one is more than sufficient.

Much easier to either do it over the web, or restrict it solely to email like a mailing list. Trying to bridge the two interfaces is not trivial and not better.

Actually, you can use POP3It and a scheduling app to automatically pull in the e-mails from the listserv at X-minute intervals. I've been working on an internal solution here which is both a web and listserv-based discussion list, and it's been working out quite well.
