Hello all. I must say I wish I were back in my cozy CDML world. Server is killing me.

The solutions are being hosted on 2 G4s, each running os x server, 1 running server 5.5, one running FMU 5.5.

Problem is, when you boot up FM server 5.5., it automatically stops within a couple of seconds. As well, it doesn't open up any DBs. We have disabled everything we can possibly think of on the FM Server, to no avail.

Any suggestions? FM people are being stinky b/c they "don't support" installing FM Server on os x server.

Unless you just want a hobby for a while, I'd install OS 9.2.2 on your G4, load FM Server, use RAMBunctious, and Peek-a-Boo and enjoy very good speed and stability.

In another words -- it is not running.

Didn't FM say the same?

IMHO I will bet it will not run.

RE: The solutions are being hosted on 2 G4s, each running os x server,

Try FMServer on OSX 10.1.5 CLIENT not OSX Server - it is not needed and may cause all sorts of problems with conflicts and performance degredation.

The funny (or maybe, unfortunate) thing is that for the first day, walking the other people through the process in california, I could see it on my machine. However, they could not see it on the machine running unlimited right next to the FMserver box. They reinstalled, and by the next day, NOBODY could see it. Gr.

If it's totally unnecessary to run os x server on the machine, then we will just go with os x and call it a day.

Thanks, guys.

Okay, just one more question about this. It has more to do with serving unlimited, but since I started with this thread, I thought I'd just continue here. FMP folks indicate that they don't want to see FM run on os x server. However, kerberos authentication is taking place on the machines in a manner which dictates the use of os x server. Also, as the traffic is not that high, I'd like to run both unlimited and WSC on the same machine. Doable? Or do we suck up the $ for another computer?

Whoa! I was just browsing around while burning some time and noticed this 2 month old thread. I've been using FMP Server on OS X Server for over 6 months without problem! Have I just been lucky and problems are looming on the horizon?

RE: I'd like to run both unlimited and WSC on the same machine.

No problem with that on Windows NT and W2K. I personally wouldn't recommend the W2k server, but NT4 is just great.

We are running 5 solutions for 5 clients from single Unlimited. We didn't restart the Unlimited for months.

Unlimited is running on single NT box with IIS, WebConnector, Security Filter and two Mercury mail servers powered with Celeron 1.2 GHz and 7200 RPM disk.

It is serving several thousands request every day and sometime 50-100 concurrent users.
