MikeKD Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 HI Folks, I've just bought a new MacBook and am using it as an excuse to force me to organise my HD! In Mac OS Sierra, documents and desktop are synced (optionally) with iCloud. This feature is obviously handy as it provides an easy way to access files without carrying memory sticks etc around. My questions are: 1. Is there a danger of a FM file being corrupted if it is on a disk that is being synced with iCloud? (I believe that this is the case with DropBox etc?) 2. Is that danger only present when the file is actually open in FM, or does it apply to backup files / files that aren't open too? Cheers folks! Mike
Wim Decorte Posted August 12, 2017 Posted August 12, 2017 Haven't looked into it specifically but the risk is real. Even if the current implementation is safe and does not touch open files, you'd still be at the mercy of the Apple Engineers changing it without you knowing it.
MikeKD Posted August 12, 2017 Author Posted August 12, 2017 Thanks; that's what I thought - so I"ll be best creating a new folder outside docs and desktop for FM files. I guess backups can be stored in docs as long as they're not opened from there.... Cheers! Mike
