HTML Editors To Interact With FM Pro

Featured Replies

I currently use the 30-Day Trial of Claris HomePage to make proper html pages to interact with my published databases. I am hoping there is another program iether published by Apple or another company that will provide basic wizards to customize the cdml tags (if i am right) to interact.

If not where is a good place to learn all the tags and get a nice dictionary/script reference?

Thanks.

you need to get a copy of the CDML reference database regardless of what tool you use... it's the only decent reference available. Look on your hard disk, the install CD or on the Filemaker Inc web site.

Somebody posted a link to a free DreamWeaver extension that lets it work with CDML tags. It offers *nothing* like the functionality that Homepage offers. (a minute's silence for HP3 please).

Dry searching the forums for dreamweaver.

Hi,

bit of a moan here:

........the CDML database is a 'decent' reference?:???

try using it to work out how out how inline actions etc. work

I think that FileMaker are doing very little to promote the application as a web platform outside of 'Instant', though I always argue that it's the quickest and simplest way to build a dynamic web site*.

If no-one was prepared to continue developing Home Page as a page editing tool, then I reckon they should simply have bundled it free with Filemaker to encourage folk to build custom web solutions. This could make business sense as it would drive sales of Unlimited.

regards, jeff

*quick and simple: I did a proof-of-concept site for some guys last week. news stories, for sale ads, user's contributions all with web input, pictures, links etc. Up and running in a day and a half. Try that with ASP.

I agree with Jeff that CDML/FMP development is Quick and Simple. It can also be quite powerful, hence I generally prefer it to the others.

I also develop in ASP/VBScript and PHP/mySQL, both of which I like, however I prefer the 'Q and S' of FMP.

All the best.

Garry

Personally, I write html/cdml in SimpleText. I create a template. I do a lot of copy and paste with minor edits - how hard is that?

I had no problems with inlineactions, or most other tags in the cdml reference. Decent, yes. Perfect, no. Look at the tag fmp-includefield. The reference discussion fails to mention the need for the field in the db to be a global. You only get that from the developer edition.

I didn't found any Wizards.

My workflow is:

Design the databases for web

Design the HTML pages in GL (I might switch to DW MX)

Add the CDML code to the HTML pages.

Or I am first starting with the CDML code to blank HTML page and fiddle with HTML layout later.
