alopas Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 Hi, I'm planing to store pictures in a database, all together would be 4 GB. Is this too big? Is there a size limit for FM Pro 5.5? Does the size affects the performance of the document? Thank you
kenneth2k1 Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 I think the size limit for an individual file is 2GB. However, if you are keeping a database of images, you most likely don't want to store these IN FM because it would be very, very slow. Store them in a folder on the HDD and store a reference of the image in FM. Ken
alopas Posted July 22, 2002 Author Posted July 22, 2002 I started storing just references to files, but the links get broken too often! (I get a message saying "Could not draw picture file ...") Is there any way to avoid this? I increased the memory used by FM, and converted the images from "Illustrator EPS" to "Photoshop EPS", but still have the same problem ... that's why I thought on storing the pictures in the database ...
kenneth2k1 Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 Interesting... You may want to look at the Troi File Plug-in. Brent Dussia (LiveOak) referred me to this, and it may provide you with an alternative. Other than that, I don't know. Maybe convert your images to JPEG, although FM should be able to handle PS files. Ken
Kurt Knippel Posted July 22, 2002 Posted July 22, 2002 Start by determining why you are getting broken links. We are doing the same thing and only get broken links when the drives are not mounted. Another option is to have a file with ONLY the picture, then relate that to another file which has whatever fields you need to describe the picture. This will help to keep individual files sizes down. You could also use the Troi File plugin to manipulate the actual picture file and just store a small thumbnail in Filemaker.
