Working around the 100 file limit in FMServer

Featured Replies

We are going to be consolidating 3 FMservers that we have into 1 server with multiple processors. We need to know if there is a way for us to get around the 100 open file limit that FMServer has. Can we install multiple instances of FMServer and therefore get 200 or more file limit? Has anyone done anything similar to this and have some advice that they can give? I would appreciate any info that you can offer.

Thanks,

John

The FM Server 5 and newer limit is 125 files. I know of no way to run multiple instances of FM Server on one machine. Even if you could, shared resources would make the performance suffer.

You will definatly get poorer performance by consolidating the machines into one. Not only does the actual processor make very little difference on performance, but they will suddenly be sharing a single harddisk, hd controller channel and network pipes.

All in all the best option is multiple servers, load balancing (across multiple servers) is one of the best methods of performance tuning.

On what OS?

We just replaced server with 2 processors with server with 1 processor.

We have peak performance

Disk: 1991

Network: 1403

Transactions: 4017

with 65 users connected.

Is better to spend money on fast HD, Fast Network, Fast Memory, and Fast Bus then on 2nd processor.
