Dreambeaver and FM 6.0

Hi,

Welcome to my world ...the world of the IQ challenged! I am running Mac OSX, FM 6.0, and building webpages in Dreambeaver MX. I would like users to be able to fill out an online application form and have the data magically appear in a Filemaker database. I do not want to use web companion and I do not have Filemaker unlimited....I think the answer lies in the mysterious wasteland (for me) of ODBC, .jsp. asp or other places. Can anybody out there point me in ther right direction or give me a primer to look at? thanks in advance...

IMHO -- there is always WC involved even with jsp (JDBC).

The ODBC is different animal and not very good in FM 5.5.

I didn't test performance in FM6, but I wouldn't trust that a bit.

WC with CDML is the easiest thing for HTML/FM person. I do not know anybody using ODBC.

stay away from ODBC in FM. I have tested it with MM_stuff and ASP and it DOES NOT work. It will connect just fine..let you add a record....you still have a smile on your face....and then it will give you a middle finger when you try to use an SQL based filtering command.I don't know if it will work in case you cross some ODBC- Dreamwaver MX-CDML works but as some more experience people have said......"When in Rome.... use CDML"

Sad part about CDML is that sits on HTML which is as "Hyper" and "Dynamic" combo as my 108 yrs old gramma!

But "gramma can still cook a mean meal" = if you just need some simple stuff I would suggest use CDML

good luck on your journey!

IF you decide to used *****Deamweaver MX and CDML here is some free tools that will help your WYSIWYG editor

did I mention how much I like Dreamweaver UD or MX smile.gif

Leb I Sol-

I don't think the product you recommended (CDML for DreamWeaver) works with MX. At least, it doesn't say it does and I tried it and it didn't. Have you used it with MX?

Thanks-

Courtney

I am using it as we speak/type...

Dreamwaver MX...I have screenshot attached

DW.jpg

forgot to say...Windows platform here

....what was the problem....DW is the same for MAc and Win....same folder structure.....read their ReadMe.txt file.If you have some trouble let me know maybe we can tweak it so it works for Mac as well!

Oh! I'm a dope. Extracted all files to the path specified in readme.txt, instead of what was inside the "the files" folder. Working beautifully now, on W2K, btw. Thanks for the tip!

....also as aside note you can dovelop these files even further if you look at XML file that you copied....the logic is based on IF [FMP- show image name.gif so just make some more images and add some lines in XML document!

I guess it depends how much CDML you want to do in future!

good luck
