From looking at spec sheets and reading pdf files and help files, it seems that FM server only does direct FM clients, not web publishing like FM Pro (which, ironically, as the 'entry level' product, does both) There is some reference to using the Web Companion in the documentaion, but it looks like ANOTHER computer would have to run FM pro, open the server hosted database remotely, and the FM pro machine would publish to the web. can this be true? two machines ? Am I missing something? Why is the 'server' version less functional than the regular version? any insight would be appreciated. Kurt Knippel Posted February 7, 2002 Share Posted February 7, 2002 FM Server is pure and simple a database server (like SQL Server or Oracle, neither of which can do this either). Filemaker Pro Unlimited (with Web Companion) is what is used to make databases served by FM Server available to the web site. However if you are using FMPro 4 then Unlimited is not necessary. Jost so you know since you did not speicfy the version of FMPro you were planning to use. SIMPLIFY ... However in Australia, Server is approx $2,400 and Unlimited is approx $2,200 So I think around $3,000 Australian (approx $1,500 US) for the combined version.
