January 9, 200323 yr Hello, I saw the 'send email' script step. It seems straightforward, but where do I enter the POP and SMTP info? Thanks, Evan Cooney
January 9, 200323 yr It doesn't send directly to a server. It only opens the local computers email application and fills in the address fields and body. (if desired)
January 9, 200323 yr If you want to send email direct from FileMaker without the need for an external email client, look into plugins like SMTPit from Community Networking Solutions www.cnsplug-ins.com. If you want to send out direct mailer's , watch this space.
January 9, 200323 yr Author Oh Ok. Well do any additional parameters have to be set? I'm on OS 9 using Entourage as my mail client. And when I run the send mail script step with all the parameters filled in, nothing happens. E
January 9, 200323 yr I think you set your default email client in the "Internet" control panel... that's probably all you need to do.
January 10, 200323 yr Author Getting warmer. Now my email app (Entourage) opens, but it does not start a new letter. Any more suggestions? Thank you for your help so far. Evan C
January 10, 200323 yr Filemaker's send email function is only compatible with certain email programs. I'm not sure if Entourage is one of them. It does work with Eudora and (I think) Outlook.
January 11, 200323 yr On OS9 I run a little scriptable smtp gateway (MondoMail) that closes itself in time etc. It does noet have any interface, it will just relay your email to the host you specify, the username, cc, bcc, etc. This is a free (or shareware, not sure to be honest) thing from Acme Tech. (http://www.acmetech.com/). I'm using this app to send loads of emails and autoresponders daily, never fails. It's a pretty old app but still works since there are no fancy features in it. JP
June 12, 200322 yr If you're using entourage, it prob means you have word as well. Go word, create a doc, go tools, data merge manager, create form letter, Get data, select Filemaker and browse to the fm file. Then, add the fields you want in the drag drop dialog and drag drop merge fields into the doc body. click preview and scroll through to see the fields change. You can then merge to print, new docs or email (Entourage must be default for this to work. Try it. It's easy. david
