Hi guys -

Again, thanks for a great board; I have learned so much just by perusing and posting here and there. I have another basic question:

I can access/view my changes and coding when I point my browser to the http://localhost address. However, when I try to replace "localhost" with my IP address, I receive a "Page Cannot be Displayed" error. I've fiddled within the FMP settings with port numbers and all of that and still, no luck.

Is it a network security issue on my end? What little detail am I missing? I'd like to give the IP to a coworker so he can see what I'm up to.

Thanks,

Vic

If FM is working OK with "localhost" then it must be a network issue.

If you are using a router (or something similar) you will not be able to use the IP address allocated to your connection from your computer. However, another computer on the Internet will be able to use the address if you have the FM Port open on your router.

What sort of network are you using? (LAN or Internet)

Good Luck

Hi Garry, thanks for the reply.

We're on a LAN connection.

I figure it's some sort of setting within our network; anything like this is uncharted waters for our company (good for me, aye? smile.gif) Anyway, I guess what I need is exactly what information/request to relay back to our Network Administrator so we all know what we're doing.

Thanks again,

Anybody have any tips?

Can you use "Web Sharing" on the computer? (Disable FM if it is using Port 80, or change the Port.)

Is "TCP/IP" the selected "Network Protocol" for FM?

What OS are you using?

Good Luck.

Garry-

I have tried all the different port options, with no luck.

TCP/IP is selected.

I'm using Windows Professional 2000.

Hi,

I had a similar thing on my mac using a DSL line. All localhosts where doing great, butmy fixed IP didn't. Well not from the box running that IP. The DSL router had the fixed IP and I was on a LAN using PAT/NAT.

Connecting to my machine using the fixed IP from a remote location worked fine. Doing the same on my own machine (with that fixed IP) gave me the 'cannot load...' message.

I now code and test using my local IP (192.168.1.*) and it woks just fine. Remote users can use the domainname or IP to connect.

I am on a Mac so I dont know if this applies to Windows aswell...
