Is v.4.03 compatibile with all versions of OS 9? I'm planning to upgrade from 9.0.4 to perhaps as high as 9.2.2 but don't want lose the ability to use FM. (Yes, I know I should upgrade everything...)

I use 9.1 and FM 4.03 all the time, no conflects that I'm aware of.
