February 27, 200322 yr Hi I would like a client's choice out of a list to set a value in a field in another database - I would expect to do that with a script, but I can't think of any way to let that script start when the client makes his choice (FM 5). Is there any way to do that??? hans
February 27, 200322 yr Use a plug-in for a script when exiting a field. Alternate method is using a pause script. This solution had been discussed on that Forum, and this is a sample using this kind of work around
February 27, 200322 yr Hi Hans, The standard answer to this question is, that FileMaker can't run a script upon exiting a field. There a couple of plugins that they say will do it, but I don't use plugins so I don't know which ones to recommend. There are also a couple of workarounds that you can take a look at that are available at www.fmfiles.com, here are a couple that come to mind. http://www.fmfiles.com/dev10.html Field Exit Runs Script http://www.fmfiles.com/tnt8.html Script Execution on Exiting Field However, in your case I don't think you need a script, to do what you want. The field in the second database can be populated in several ways depending upon what needs to go into it. [color:"red"] Is it just the same thing that is put into the first database, such as Company Name? Is it different data that depends on the answer given in the first database? Hope I haven't confused you too much. Lee )
February 27, 200322 yr Author Hi Ugo what plug-in do you mean?? And would you happen to have a link for the pause script discussion - whas that somewhere with in the Script forum part? (sorry for asking - but I just joined the forum..) thanx! Hans
February 27, 200322 yr Author Hi Lee I will have a look at the links you mention. It's a combination of orderinput and invoicing database, in some cases the customer has external invoices (for the material they ordered for the job of their client) I use one database in which they can see the external invoices depending on a choice of 'sort of job'; this should set a value in the ext. invoice database, and in return allowing them to see the according layout in the orderdatabase - it seems like a very 'runaround' way but that's because they want to be able to control everything apart, so I've split up in several databases (I hop you understand what I mean...) thanks Hans
February 27, 200322 yr Set up a relationship from File 1 (Master) and File 2 (Related) and use a portal to view the information in File 1. HTH Lee
February 27, 200322 yr Author Thanks Lee there already is the relationship (although I will probably have to improve that - I'm one of those guys who gets an assignment and just dives in and see what happens, so too little time to really get to know a program), but apart from that I took a look at the 'exit script' links and I think that will REALLY help me out, so thanks a lot for the fast answers!!! cheers Hans
February 28, 200322 yr Author Thanks Ugo I will look into that, although for the moment the exit script seems to be just the thing I need thanks for the help! cheers Hans
