goral
We are running FM 6.0 on 3 workstations (Win98). DataBase is stored on File Server and whoever opens it first is Hosting the other users. We have total of 5 files which are related to each other. The problem is that when we use them we get the error message that one of the related files is not open and "Open File" Window comes out. We have to choose that file and re-open it. Any idea what causes that? This thing is drivnig us up the wall. Frustrated in SACTOWN
Anatoli
That is very *very* bad practice. See other posts about that. You will probably corrupt soon your databases. Host all files in single copy of FM client or in server and open db files in another clients ONLY through HOST button.
Kurt Knippel
As an addendum to Anatoli's suggestion, make sure to open ALL the files on the host FIRST, then on the other machines use the Open File - Hosts button.
Guest
Thank you for your help!!! We noticed improvement right away. However we have another issue. We tried to install FM 6.0 on our NT Server 4.0, but we get message that we need to update to Service Pack 6. Where can we get this update and what it does? Your help is greatly appreciated. Vaughan
Try the Microsoft web site.
Anatoli
Just finish the answer to you question -- it will work better, than Windows NT 4 with service pack =< 5. BTW, you do not need Windows server software to use FM client or server. One of the best for FM serving is W2000 client.
