tirtza Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 I just deleted a major set of records from a file. Is there any way to compress the file now?
LiveOak Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 Use the "Save a Copy as...", select "Compressed Copy", rename and replace the original file. -bd
Anatoli Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 That always compress copy by some percentage. But if you delete many records and close that file, FM automatically releases unused blocks.
danjacoby Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 FM only releases unused blocks occasionally -- I'm not sure if it has to do with how many records are deleted, or what criteria are used. The "Save a Copy As" feature is the only way to make sure.
Anatoli Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 IMHO creating clone and importing records will produce even smaller file.
SteveB Posted April 4, 2003 Posted April 4, 2003 Anatoli: Doesn't a clone wipe out the contents of global fields, especially containers, etc. Steve
Anatoli Posted April 5, 2003 Posted April 5, 2003 Yes it does. Clone will be without content of global fields. Never do a clone if there is some kind of design in global fields. But if you will import again records, then you will import also the global fields into clone.
