kenneth2k1 Posted April 25, 2003 Posted April 25, 2003 Hello people! We have a relational database (2 files) that we want to put on the Web. Right now just to test it and all, I am using regular FM5.5 and the Web Companion and Remote Data Access Companion. I can access the file using the instant web publishing. The system will have multiple users (agents) logging in, and they will only be able to browse the records (prospects) that they have created. I specified a simple data entry layout as my form view. Once the users log in, they will access the prospects file to begin entering records. 2 questions: 1. How would I have records that were created in the prospect file relate to the agent stored in the agent file? Prior to this online thing, A user would create a record (or group of records) and select an agent from the agent file to assign to the record(s). 2. I was reading the manual and looking at some of the CDML examples, and it looks like my typical value list-defined fields are all screwed up online. When using instant web publishing, how do I make these value lists work? I was toying with this Web stuff a few months ago, but now it looks to get serious. I just need a few pointers and maybe a conceptual outline of what I need to do. Thanks alot Ken
Anatoli Posted April 27, 2003 Posted April 27, 2003 Ken, get CDML reference database. Then ask questions about CDML here
kenneth2k1 Posted April 28, 2003 Author Posted April 28, 2003 Thanks for the reply. I have read a little more and I am starting to understand these things. I found out that the value lists are working using the Instant Web Publishing. But since I am using all of the built-in FM stuff, where are the view forms located? If I wanted to add a CDML tag to the page (layout) that is set up as my View Form in the Web Companion View Setup, where would I do that? Is this not possible with instant web publishing? Do I have to use custom web publishing? Ken
Anatoli Posted April 29, 2003 Posted April 29, 2003 Just go ahead and use Custom. Instant is OK just for simplest tasks like stamp collection, but it looks OK from marketing point of view. I never found someone using Instant. Have fun!
kenneth2k1 Posted April 30, 2003 Author Posted April 30, 2003 Thanks for the advice dude. That's what I was afraid of. Lucky for me, there isn't a whole lot of things to be done - just a simple data entry screen. My boss gave me a very short deadline for this, so I have the user manually select themself from a list to associate to the prospect record. It's kinda redundant, but it works- so far. When I get more time, I will go back and look more at custom. I know you're the pro at that stuff, so expect some more questions from me! Thanks Ken
Anatoli Posted April 30, 2003 Posted April 30, 2003 I'll be traveling tomorrow from San Clemente to Prague. On Friday hopefully I'll assemble my computer again and be online
kenneth2k1 Posted October 2, 2003 Author Posted October 2, 2003 Ok, IWP has been working OK for me to this point. Now it's time to lose the diapers. I've started creating my html forms and have simple search and search result forms. Now, I ask the questions again: What tags do I use to find on a field? Also, when adding a record, I want it to add the record for the current logged user. My situation is described in the previous posts. If you need more info, i will supply. Thanks guys Ken
Anatoli Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 Do you have the CDML reference database? Everything is there. For keeping track about logged user build User database and look how to carry user ID through the pages with Tokens.
kenneth2k1 Posted October 3, 2003 Author Posted October 3, 2003 Thanks anatoli... I'll look into that
