kenneth2k1 Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 Could someone point me to something that might explain the Perform Find/Replace dialog? There's alot of new stuff there and I can't find sufficient literature. Thanks Ken
kenneth2k1 Posted May 30, 2003 Author Posted May 30, 2003 Hey: not really a problem, just couldnt find it described enough in the manual and Help about Find next, replace and find, match case, direction and all that. Unless you wanna just explain the whole thing Ken
BobWeaver Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 Haven't really looked at the FM6 help file much, but basically if you're wondering about the difference between constrain, expand and replace options in a Find request that have been added with the new version. Constrain searches only the records that are already in the current found set. So, this is like a logical AND type find (ANDing the existing find request with the new one) Expand searches records not in the current found set, and adds the newly found records to the existing found set. So, this is like a logical OR type find (ORing the existing find request with the new one) Replace is just Filemaker's original Perform Find (Find Classic ). The existing found set is scrapped and only the records that meet the new find criteria will be in the new found set.
kenneth2k1 Posted May 30, 2003 Author Posted May 30, 2003 Ok, thanks man. So what about Perform: Find Next and the Direction list? Is that like next/prev/all records or what? And Match Case if you dont mind explaining. Thanks again for the time Ken
Lee Smith Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 Ken, The find features you are referring to is in the "New" [color:"red"] Find Feature in version 6 Have you ever done a Find and Replace in a word processor? This is exactly how this feature works. The terms are covered in the On-Line Help just type or copy/paste this into the Index Find Box finding/replacing data, About finding and replacing data all of the terms you have asked about are explain there. Lee
kenneth2k1 Posted May 30, 2003 Author Posted May 30, 2003 Thanks Lee. That's what I was looking for. I knew it had to be in there somewhere. I put in finding and replacing data. There it was. Thanks. Ken
