# fields to add up based on data in text field

Featured Replies

Hi

I have 4 number fields "cost of repair 1, cost of repair2 , cost of repair 3 and cost of repair 4". I also have 4 text fields "type of repair cost 1, type of repair cost 2, type of repair cost 3, type of repair cost 4" I want to add the values of all the cost of repair for which there is a value "other accessories" entered into any of the text fields named above. Is it possible to do these conditionnal additions in filemaker?

Hi LUC.ROBITAILLE,

Case(type of repair cost 1 = "other accessories" , cost of repair 1) +

Case(type of repair cost 2 = "other accessories" , cost of repair 2) +

Case(type of repair cost 3 = "other accessories" , cost of repair 3)+

Case(type of repair cost 4 = "other accessories" , cost of repair 4)

See if this does what you want.

Thanks, it works! I had to add "0" ,in the syntax.

Case(type of repair cost 1 = "other accessories" , "0" ,cost of repair 1) +

Case(type of repair cost 2 = "other accessories" , "0" ,cost of repair 2) +

Case(type of repair cost 3 = "other accessories" , "0" ,cost of repair 3)+

Case(type of repair cost 4 = "other accessories" , "0" ,cost of repair 4)

If I may refine my problem, I find it rather tedious to do so for not the 4 number fieds but the 26 I have...not to mention that there are other choices that "other accessories" to add up but also "remote starters" and 3 other choices...is there any other ways of doing it that you might know of?

thanks again

;-)
