I looked at it....already forgot it.....the "Mac OS X" & aqua thing has been arround the block...I like it too ...but it is just that it will not stick with the customer (unless your company is really big)

look at some of the bigger companies and their logos...why are they so recognizable now?!

simple and effective.....nike,home depot, HP,dell, ibm, filemaker -folder thing, mercedes,BMW, cisco,"pnetium inside"...they all are VERY simple but VERY different.....

I know it is hard to give up things u like...but when they become trends u lookse your indentoty and uniquness....Even if u were the 1st to produce it!

all this IMHO

all the best!

So are you suggesting that Apple's logo is trashy??? or are you saying that they are a small company? Because they most certinly use the "Aqua Look"

A "button" style with a light gradient has been around a lot longer than Apple's aqua interface.

I rather liked the logo. It was clean and not amateur. But I also agree with what Leb said. Many logos that stick to me are simple and 1-dimensional. This is aside from any interface design rhetoric.

Just wanted you to know that it looked good to me.

Hey Tallboy,

I generally like the logo, but would make the letters a bit smaller and thinner, so that they remain a bit further from the edge of the circle.

And I've got the feeling that they should be moved a little to the left to be centered.

Just my opinion of course.

Regards,

Ernst.

As a fellow designer, I realize the importance of feedback. With this, I would like to gently suggest the following:

1. Focus. This logo is to busy, there is no focal point to it. Do I look at the blue button, at the bold lettering, gradient or at the little folder?

2. Versatality. How do you intend to use this logo? Is it strictly for the web? Will there be printed materials? If so, can this logo be formatted for spot color, four-color process, grayscale and black/white?

3. Size. Be sure your logo is still legible at a size small enough to fit on a business card.

4. Gradients. Be careful when designing with gradients. They tend to look great on the screen, but can unpredictable when printing. Also, gradients tend to call attention to themselves and can overpower a logo (as is the case here).

I hope you find this helpful. All the best.

Dark logos with Gradients also will not fax well at all. Not very impressive to fax someone a Quote or Invoice and your logo is a big black blob.

Plus... try to get that logo embroidered on a shirt. The gradient will just not work.

But if it's just for web use, I think it's very nice.

dont get me worng tallboy...I am a sucker for osX look as well smile.gif hint hint

it is just that it has been used so so so so so so....aaa..so so so so much and if u want to "stick out" and your logo rememberd as unique then drop the whole look. I do not dispute the "quilaity" ( beside th mentioned text thinning and perhaps better emphasis on "folder") of the design and much as the theme.....but then again I don't know the company and it they happen to be "apple retailers".......no hard feelings here...just my honest opinion much like I would expect from you wink.gif

All the best!

Hi Tailboy,

Well you sure have received a lot of good advice. Here are two more considerations:

1. While you don't capitalize the m in Filemaker, you do run the two words together. This along with the open file folder gets you very close to copyright infringement. I don't know how much the company protects its trademark, but you might be advised to stay away from this, or else you will have to acknowledge the trademark which further complicates your logo.

2. Your present and future customers are much more interested in what you can do to solve their problems than in the tool(s) you use. You want a logo that identifies you, yourself - not the tools you use. Another reason for dropping the "...Filemaker..." and open folder. Best of luck in your endevours.
