Flockenbok Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 I have a few copies of both server 5.5 and 6 unlimited. Can I by using two or more servers have double the users and file limits? I ask because my work needs more than the 250 users and 125 file limit.
cjaeger Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 I doubt you need more than 125 files in one soulution. Rethink your database's structure. With more than 200 users at a time, your server will probably slow down to a crawl. Using multiple servers, you will get problems with data consistency. Unless the majority of them are web users. but then -no limit.
Flockenbok Posted November 25, 2003 Author Posted November 25, 2003 I have to wait for my manager to get back to me. But he indicated that the 125 files might not be enough. We are dealing with 1000's of employees. The servers should fine, everything would run under citrix on quad systems and storage is via a SAN.
Charles Delfs Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 Is your manager an expert in relational database structure?. The number of employees means nothing, it is the number of different types of information tracked that counts, and there are many ways to either reduce or eliminate many fields. Charles
Anatoli Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 I do agree fully with Charles Also...years ago the solution will run on 486 or 68040 machines. Relation database was a must. These days you can cram more into single database without affecting performance that much.
Kundinger Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Hi 'Flockenbok', As the above comments indicate... your question is somewhat vague and therefore the responses are somewhat generalized. If I were to consult with the information management personnel and management team within your organization... these would be SOME of the questions I would pose to them: - how many workstations are on your network and access the info system - how many users are actually connecting to the info system at any given time (max., min., and time of day) - what is the purpose of the information system... file count... record count... etc - ETC, ETC, ETC. After visiting with your organization... I may find that: - some users can utilize a web browser to view most data on the info system - some users may use a portion of the info system running on one server... the rest on another server - remote-unconnected (laptop) users may download certain data files and then upload changes - ETC, ETC, ETC. So... to say the least... we need more specific details before we can make any informed and accurate recommendations. Give us some more details as to your FMP abilities, experiences, training. Where are you located? Your FMForums Bio has nothing... Bob Kundinger [email protected]
Newbies gensab Posted January 4, 2004 Newbies Posted January 4, 2004 We have been developing a solution in fmp for business for the last 4 years: payroll, accounting, budget, receivable, payable, local inventory, vendor inventory, factory production, finance calculator, dictionary, calendar, word processing, taxes, manager help, sales monitoring, PDA connections, transportation fee, etc. etc. etc . Along the years we find more solution and more ideas for every customer, and of course the tables increase little by little as more solutions are needed. Of course, with fmp 6 is posible to shorten the use of more tables compare to fmp 3. However, time pass and more solutions comes. It may happen in near future that we may get into a customer who may demand all are solutions for a big organization. Is there any way to go further of 125 tables?
Anatoli Posted January 5, 2004 Posted January 5, 2004 2 or more servers. Still, client will open only 50 at the time. And around corner is FM7 with everything changed
