schotja Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 Can someone comment on the ability to do this? I Need to save a fmp 5 file for someone who only has version 3 and 4? Is this possible? It's a pretty basic file without scripts etc...?
EddyB Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 Hi, Open your file and go to File->Save Copy As When the box opens it will have as the filename: Filename Copy Change this to: Filename.fp3 And click save, this will save it as an fp3 file. I have never done this so I don't quite know what it does to the fp3 db for features that are only available in later versions. Ed.
Lee Smith Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 This is not true. The two files are totally different structures. This has been debated over and over again on every FileMaker List that I belong to. Weather you use ResEdit, or a utility called Reverter, you will produce unstable files that can corrupt your data. EddyB Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 Hi Lee, It is true that if you do the above, you do end up with a fp3 file. But as I said in the post I have never done this and so have no idea what happens to the fp3 file.
Lee Smith Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 FileMaker 4 gives you this message. This is FileMaker Pro Release 4.0.
EddyB Posted February 12, 2004 Posted February 12, 2004 OK thanks Lee, now i know! I didn't have an older version to test this on. Best regards Ed.
