filemaker and the web

Featured Replies

I was going to try phpmyfaq ( http://www.phpmyfaq.de/index.php for our website at school.

My question is can filemaker do the same thing. I am ready to filemaker 7.0 if that will work.

here is an example of a site using phpmyfaq http://www.sad60.k12.me.us/

Thanks for the help in advance

Hi, d! I am not familiar with phpmyfaq, but I could not not find it (quick glance) in use at the sad60.k12.me.us website you gave. That site seems to be powered by phpWebSite which is an open source Content Management System (CMS) which uses PHP and MySQL (I've used phpWebSite briefly as a user). Maybe they use phpmyfaq somewhere, but I did not see it and did not see a FAQ. phpmyfaq.de seems to use phpBB for its own forums section... maybe phpmyfaq uses a pre-packaged forums system as a component... I don't know.

Anyway, this is a debatable issue, but, I would not recommend FileMaker for any web system with a large number of user accounts as these systems were designed to do. If you are just serving or receiving data from web users, FileMaker is great, but if you must track individual activities and permissions, I'd avoid FMP.

I have not used FMP7, however.
