Hello,

Here is the question. I would like to do a report that lists all the products for a certain year, but I want the report to do subs on a certain field and I want to change that field value in a script.

Example - You have a database of all cars from 2000-2004 and you have a field for color. Your database is populated with color as white only, but there may be 6 different colors you want to report on. Like first I would like to list all 2004's with white in order of name and then list all the same cars with blue and then red and so forth on the same report. I realize I could do seperate reports and do a set field option, but is there a way to have the report automatically do this, or is there a way to join multiple reports to do this?

Now for another wrinkle, what if in 2000 they had all 6 colors for all cars, but in 2001 they only had 3. Then in 2002 they had 3 different from 2001 and so on with different variations for each year.

I have tried some different things, but can't get it to work. I am a little confused about using the same data and repeating it for a changed value in one field.

Thanks for your help.

You need to setup a columnar layout with sub-summaries sorted by year and by color. Everything should fall into place.

Thanks, but how to I tell the sub-summary to change the color since my database is only setup with one color for each car? Is there a setting to say something like if year = 2004 color = white, then if year = 2004 color = blue and so forth. I think I would need to create a script for the preview layout that loops and does if scenerio's.

Plus I have another field that does a calculation for price based on the color field.

My database is not on cars, I just used this as an example because I thought it would be easier to explain.

Thanks for your help.

Do you mean how do you select different colors for different reports? It's unclear quite what you're asking. If you could attach a small sample of what you're doing, we might get a better idea of the issue.
