vct Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 I converted a FMP database which consisted of more than 10 files, from version 5.5 to 7.0. The conversion created a lot of problems and issues. One of the problems is that a field (in file : use a popup list that is designed to use an external value list in a relational file (file A) that shows related values only. This value list (in file : works fine in the Browse mode, but does not show any value in Find mode. I didn't have this problem when the files were in version 5.5. Has anyone seen this problem before? Do you know how to resolve it? Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks!
-Queue- Posted July 28, 2004 Posted July 28, 2004 Relationships don't exist in Find Mode. I'm surprised that your file worked in 5.5. Were you using 'value list from another file' or 'only related values' from a field? That may have made the difference. Also, is the field repeating or normal?
vct Posted July 29, 2004 Author Posted July 29, 2004 The fields are normal text fields. In file A,the value list "B" uses related values from field. In file B, the value list "B" is defined to use the value list "B" from file A. I made up the test files to show where the problem is. Files A and B are in version 7. Files C and D are in version 5.5. file A is a version 7 of file C. File B is a version 7 of file D. The value lists in field B in the file B (ver 7) and file D (ver 5.5) both pop up in browse mode, but only the value list in the file D (ver 5.5) can pop up in the find mode. In the real files that I work on, I need the value list to pop up in the find mode. If I can't find a way to fix the problem, I have to rework the scripts. Test.zip
-Queue- Posted July 29, 2004 Posted July 29, 2004 Maybe I'm missing something. The value list B in file D doesn't pop up in Find mode either, due to relationships not existing in Find mode. I don't see any obvious change from 5.5 to 7 here.
vct Posted July 29, 2004 Author Posted July 29, 2004 hmm.. It works on my computer and the real files here. Oh, I forgot to mention that a value must be picked for the field"A", then the related values list will pop up in field "B". Sorry for the missing information.
Ugo DI LUCA Posted July 29, 2004 Posted July 29, 2004 Hi, The pop up in FM5 works when field A is populated. Same with 7 if you set your relationship with "x" rather than "="
vct Posted July 30, 2004 Author Posted July 30, 2004 I was so excited when I read your message. I tried to modified the file, but couldn't get the result. I'm a newbie to FMP 7, only had it for couple weeks. Still confused by the new relationship graph/table features. Could you please upload your revised file(s) if that's possible? Thanks for everyone's help with my problem!
Ugo DI LUCA Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 First step. Double click the link. See attached screenshot
Ugo DI LUCA Posted July 30, 2004 Posted July 30, 2004 Next, select the kind of relationship from the menu list See attached screenshot
vct Posted July 30, 2004 Author Posted July 30, 2004 Thanks Ugo, for providing the step by step instruction. I changed the relationship accordingly, but still can't see the value list in the find mode. I must miss something here
