synchronizing two databases, HELP!

I have a problem, that I hope someone can help me with....

I have set up a client database for our Australian based law firm.

I am running IWP as well for our local intranet. The problem is that, the solicitors want to be able to access this at home, however, our server is running linux and we are using an external IT company to run our server, and they are hopeless! The server does not forward port 80 or 591. So the Solicitors can't access it

I was thinking about setting a mirror of the database at my home, is their any way to synchronize the database at work and the identical one at my home? Not every 5 mins or anything, mabye just once a night?

You're help is appreciated.

Hello Daniel,

There are various ways that synchonisation can be approached - and you can look at 'rolling your own' solution if you wish.

However there is a product called SyncDek which you may wish to check out:

It might save you from having to 'reinvent the wheel'... smirk.gif

Would the IT company consider setting-up access through a VPN? Otherwise the daily syncing would not be difficult. How would you go with a daily "copy" of the database/s?

You could also consider transferring daily data to a MySQL/PHP solution on a hosted site.

Good Luck.

Garry
