Can't seem to make my portal show what I want!

Hello there!... I'm quite new to FileMaker and I seem to have a problem with using portals.

I'm sort of creating a prototype database system that would handle Fashion and Accessories. 90% of my tables are already interconnected with relationships. For one, I already incorporated a Costing Sheet Form that uses a portal for input, and also made another form to list all my costing sheet data(also using portals).

I've used this method from one table to another (e.g. My Costing Sheet data gets used under my Proforma Invoice Form, where it attempts to passively capture related costing sheet records and place the data into corresponding related fields in my PI. What I don't understand is, as I made a standard Form to list the breakdown of my Proforma Invoice data (Proforma Invoice Listing layout), my Item Code field doesn't seem to be working right. What is supposed to happen is, as I am supposed to place 2(or more) item codes under my PI, it's supposed to reflect the 2(or more) item codes when I open my Proforma Invoice Listing form/layout... but it always keeps on repeating the first Item Code on all of its listing.

What bothers me more is... I really have to make my PI right before I once again use its data to formulate a rather complex Purchase Order Form!

Help! Any significant advice is most welcome... and I need it as soon as I can get it!!!... Thank you so much.

Hi,

I don't have any computer with v7 installed here, but it might be that your fields in the portal don't reflect the relationship they're designed for.

Try checking your fields..

Yeah.

v7 didn't helped avoiding these 'antiqual' human mistakes.

BTW, may be this could be a simple feature added in the Wish List. As FM doesn't allow nested relationships, why not give some kind of alerts in case we were in need of some sleep. Zzzz.gif

Thanks for making me realize that Ugo & Queue.

I do admit it as well, and I intentionally placed some fields in the portals that shouldn't actually have belonged there... like my PIItemQty field in my PI form. Was hoping I could place that there to jive with the row-by-row inputs I place in the portals. My PIItemQty seemed to work somehow... but my Item Code field doesn't seem to show anything when I point it to get data from a related field that's supposed to be in the desired/correct portal.

Ok... so I'm doing this all wrong? Thank you for informing me that this is not supposed to be done. Is there a better way for me to interrelate these portal data to another portal data, and give an error-free output?...

I'm really really new to this. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
