September 30, 200421 yr Newbies I'm running FMP 5.5v2 (OS X 10.3) and my wife has FMP5.5v1 (OS X 10.2). I don't know how there came to be a difference -- I got the FMP boxes at the same time -- but I'm wondering if that is a problem in reestablishing our network. It has worked pretty well for three years now (occasionally, the top box in her host dialog is empty, but usually, restarting seems to help). Now the hosts dialog on her computer takes a long time to come up, and it is always empty. I've tried option-clicking Local Hosts, changing the type of file it is looking for to All Available, restarting and shutting down both computers. Should I reinstall? Which computer? David
September 30, 200421 yr I would get the latest update for FMP (i.e. 5.5v2) on the other computer. Here is the URL: Updater 5.5v2 Does other communications between the computers still exist when the FMP communication has ceased? Good Luck. Garry p.s. You could always trash Preferences.
October 1, 200421 yr Hi, are you sharing with TCPIP or Appletalk? If it's TCPIP, which is preferable, do both of the computers have a valid address on the same network? If you're using Appletalk, is it active on both computers?? regards, jeff
October 2, 200421 yr Author Newbies Thanks, guys. That link to the updater was good. I was glad to get both computers to have the exact same version. All other communications between the computers had never been disrupted (internet, and logging in to each other's computers). But when I turned of the OSX firewall off (in the sharing preference pane) on both computers, then the FMP communication was reestablished. So the bottom line is: network is now reestalished, but I'm sure that it was working before with the firewalls up. Our data is pretty sensitive -- how can I have my firewall and the network too?
