Drop Down List That Launchs Script??

Featured Replies

Can I make a script that runs after selecting a value in a drop down list then base the script on the result of the drop down selection?

Thanks

Do not double post in the forum. Queue has already requested that you delete the other post Value Lists, so we will go with this one.

If you were to perform a search of the forum using +Script +Exit +Field (as Subject), you would get 11 hits in the last year. If you were to read through them, you would also descover that this isn't native to FileMaker and that you would either need a plugin, or use one of the workarounds.

Or that it is native to FileMaker and works quite nicely, if you're on Windows. wink.gif

Good one JT, grin.gif

I would love to see a sample of your "native to FileMaker and works quite nicely" approach.

Hi Lee. You already have seen it. wink.gif It was the sample with Pause/Resume Script [0:00:00] and only worked with a menu. You were tweaking it for Mac and said that it was too 'flashy' because you had to use a loop and a list. This was several months ago. Do you remember? ooo.gif

Oh yeah, I remember it now.

I guess I was hoping that a new approach had come along. frown.gif

Oh well, wait until v 8.x I guess. wink.gif

Sorry about the multiply post, I did know the best topic for it. Thanks for the feedback and as I suspected, since I'm using OSX, I will have to go with menu with a "GO" button idea. Thanks again.

Perhaps something like this?

See attached file. Works with OSX.

Sorry Charlie,

We were talking about v6, it just didn't get stated in our posts very good.

Thanks for sharing though, and I look forward to taking a look at it when I get v7 .

Actually, this same method works in v6. I've attached an example.

You can reduce the flicker by setting the pause to 1 second, but there is a slight delay after selection.

Hi Charlie,

Thanks for making a copy of your file for us using version 5/6.

This is the loop method that -queue- and I were discussing. wink.gif

Ah. I read above something about the other solution's only working with a menu, which I now take to mean a "drop down list" menu.

Charlie

No, it was menu, not list. On Windows, this technique only works with a pop-up menu. On Mac, it only works with a drop-down list and the additional loop step.
