sydneytim Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Tinkering with a very basic, single-table database, I got into the "define database: relationship" tab and did some damage. The one table in the tab? I deleted it, figuring I could just create a new one. "Are you sure you want to remove the selected tables from the graph? This will break all items that use these tables, such as layouts, scripts, and calculations, but will not delete the underlying tables or their data." I confirmed my changes with a few confident clicks of "OK", only to find that the 398 records in my database had become zero. A check over at the "define database: tables" tab confirmed that the solitary table still existed, with its 398 records still in-tact, it's just that they no longer appeared in the database. In the place of glorious data? The very dull (and slightly upsetting) expression, '<Table Missing>' WHAT HAPPENED NEXT? I quickly went back into "define database: relationships" and clicked 'Add'. I specified the original table (not establishing any relationships, as I don't really know what that means), and confirmed the changes. Although the current number of records remained a dismal zero, I went on to the next plan: go into layout mode and create a relationship between each of the fields in the layout with the table. Selecting "Specify Field..." The familiar "Related Tables" was grayed, and below it was the formerly unfamiliar "Unrelated Tables" under which my table is now listed. Despite linking each of the fields in the layout to their namesake in the ('unrelated') table, there are still no records in the database. THE QUESTION: What am I doing wrong? How can I get back to where I was before I stupidly deleted the table in the "define database: relationships" tab? Thanks in advance, Sydneytim
Ted S Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 Sydneytim, You should still be okay. It sounds like you got the table occurance added back fine but your layout is disconnected from the table. From the layout mode right click in the middle of the layout and choose LAYOUT SETUP. Then in the SHOW RECORDS FROM field scroll way up and choose your table. You will also have to reassociate the fields on your existing layout with the new (redone) table. You do this by right clicking on the field and choosing SPECIFY FIELD and scrolling way to the top and choosing the CURRENT TABLE ("whatever"). That should do it.
sydneytim Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 Quick and Accurate: Ted, you've hit the nail on the head. I'll have this show back on the road in no time. Thanks for taking the time to reply to this post! Regards, Sydneytim

Vaughan Posted January 10, 2005 Posted January 10, 2005 "Are you sure you want to remove the selected tables from the graph? This will break all items that use these tables, such as layouts, scripts, and calculations, but will not delete the underlying tables or their data." It turns out the the original warning message that FMP put to you was 100% accurate!
sydneytim Posted January 10, 2005 Author Posted January 10, 2005 Thanks again, and sorry if changing the "Subject" caused any confusion!
