RoadrunnerRay Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 I have installed FM Server7 successfully and have one client computer running FM Pro 7.0 Developer that locates this Server using Open Remote --> Local Host. I just installed FM Pro 7.0 on another computer on the same LAN and when I Open Remote --> Local Host, the Server is not located. If I use "Favorite Hosts" instead of "Local Hosts"and plug in the IP address of the Server the files pop up fine. This same computer running FM Pro 6.0 and using Open Remote locates Filemaker files on 2 other computers on the LAN. Any help will be much appreciated
dkemme Posted January 12, 2005 Posted January 12, 2005 Sounds like an issue of IP addresses. I know very little about assignment of IP addresses but I have noticed that machines on our hospital's network but numbered outside of the server's IP numbering range require the Favorite Hosts to initially locate the files needed. Creation of an opener script will greatly simplify your life, check out Vaughn's excellent thread in the examples (I can't remember exact naming in the forum) on the main page.
RoadrunnerRay Posted January 13, 2005 Author Posted January 13, 2005 Thanks for your input Doug, this is what worked for me also. The same computer that was unable to locate the FM Server7 has had no problems for the past two years running under FM Pro 6.0 and locating the FM files available on our LAN. I am going to find the "Opener Script" you refered to and utilize this feature. Thanks again, ......... Ray
Claus Lavendt Posted January 17, 2005 Posted January 17, 2005 Be aware that both FM6 and FM7 use port 5003 when connecting remote. This can in some setups confuse your computer, especially if both FM6 and FM7 is running on the same machine. ;-) Claus
