I just bought Academic FileMaker Pro 7.

I've installed it as the manual instructs, but now when i click on the launch icon, the splash screen comes up, then disappears, and nothing further happens!! The program doesn't open/launch!

So i download the updater to see if that would help: 7.0v3, and try and install that, but it says it needs to be installed over v1, v1a, or v2.

but i can't find any updaters on the net of those versions, at all!

So now i'm totally stuck!

Please help me if you can - i think this is a great program, but i'm not having a great time right now,

Duujo:

I've seen this problem before on OSX. You start FMP, then it dies. If you start it a second time, it works fine. The v3 updater should get rid of the behavior.

Contact FMI directly regarding the missing updater.

I wish it started the second time! - but no, it doesn't.

I'll try getting in contact with FMI as you suggested,

thanks.

It doesn't? Huh. I've got to wonder if it's not something else, then. Did you by any chance have a trial version on your computer before installing the full version?

Well to be honest i had a full version that wasn't mine, which did work, and then i can't remember what is what (if anything) that bought about a change that meant it didn't work at all.

I'm just wondering if upgrading from OSX 10.3.7 to 10.3.8 was the difference, or .6-.7

i really don't know. (but i don't think it was..)

Surely there's somewhere i can get the old v1 updates for filemaker though..

the aussie filemaker website really offered jack in the way of support..

my next resort would be questioning the shop where i bought it from - seeing if they can help me out.

it's wierd..

- oh no! I was just trying to open it again (repeatedly) and i actually took note of where it says the version number, and i've got 7.0v3 installed!!

so that dashes one of my hopes completely!

Disk Permissions repaired, scripts run, optimised, yep. Yet nothing.

All i could think of now is to reinstall OSX, but i'm not too keen to have to "re-do" my whole machine/setup.

Maybe when Tiger comes out (and i don't get a new Powerbook (because the speaker stereo sound is unbalanced.. but i digress))

I couldn't find "FileMaker Pro 7.0D Prefs" in one of the many library files, then did a search, and it came up with Filemaker this and that, 6 and 7 from previous installations, so i just deleted the whole bl**dy lot and BOOM - reinstalled the baby, and off she goes!!

We have a winner!! dkemme!

Thankyou so very much to those who took the time to help me out!
