Inky Phil Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 Hi everyone I have a graphic in the background of my main screen to create a brushed aluminium effect. I also have a menu of buttons. No problems with the buttons but if I click anywhere other than the buttons, ie onto the background graphic I get a message saying 'This action cannot be performed because the required table is missing' Does anyone know what action this message is referring to. I opened the specify button box to see if I had inadvertantly set it to do something but I hav'nt. It is now set to do thing. I am in the early stages of learning about 7 so my file only has 1 table with no fields I have attached the file in case it helps TIA Phil ps the file might open in kiosk mode. If so the small green button top rh corner will close it. The developer pass is d with a password of d tester_7.zip
comment Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 Go to Layout mode, select Layout Setup from the Layouts menu, and set the 'Show records from' popup to your table.
Inky Phil Posted May 11, 2005 Author Posted May 11, 2005 That is fabulous Comment. For once I do not feel stupid for asking a basic question cos I would never have worked that out. How on earth does one learn such things?? Thanks again Phil
MoonShadow Posted May 11, 2005 Posted May 11, 2005 "How on earth does one learn such things??" Studying the manual, reading every post on Forums (and everything else in the universe relating to FM) and trial and error, Phil ... just as you are doing.
Inky Phil Posted May 12, 2005 Author Posted May 12, 2005 I appreciate the encouragement Shadow. As an enthusiastic ( my wife might say addicted) amateur I am finding that converting ones brain to 7 can be mighty frustrating. Jeeps, after 18 months I had just got the hang of 5! Ah well, upwards and onwards as they say Regards Phil
Newbies sharon_bla Posted May 28, 2005 Newbies Posted May 28, 2005 OK I've done a really stupid thing - I've deleted a table by accident and now I can't access any of the data - it says <table missing> for every field. The help says that the data is irretrievably lost, but in Define Database - tables - statistics, it still shows that there are (were?) 117 records. I tried the instructions above but still no luck. Please help me!
Inky Phil Posted May 28, 2005 Author Posted May 28, 2005 Sharon Recreate the table and call it the same name. Your records should then all show HTH Phil
Newbies sharon_bla Posted May 28, 2005 Newbies Posted May 28, 2005 Thanks Phil I tried to recreate the table but it says name already in use, use a unique name. When i change the name, the new version has no fields or records in it. (I'm doing this in define Database,Tables is that the right place?) Sharon
LaRetta Posted May 28, 2005 Posted May 28, 2005 Sharon, your data is probably fine. You don't need to re-create the table; only the table occurrence (which is a representation of your table which appears in your graph). The above probably isn't working for you because you DELETED your table occurrence not your table!! You can tell if a table occurrence exists for any table by viewing the Tables tab in Define Relationships. Find your table in the list. Look to the right of Statistics under heading 'Occurrences in Graph'. Once you have created a new TO (table occurrence), go to your layout and select Layout Setup from menu. Select Show Records from and select this new TO you re-created. Your Status Menu should immediately then again show 117 records. Double-click each field and also point them to this new TO. Confusing Tables with TOs is a common (new to vs. 7) problem. You never display your tables - only occurrences of them that you've created in your graph. As you create various TOs, they appear in the Tables tab next to their table. Layouts and fields displayed must depend upon these TOs for display and relationships. If you delete a TO, all layouts, calculations, fields and scripts based upon the deleted TO will display <table missing>.
Newbies sharon_bla Posted May 29, 2005 Newbies Posted May 29, 2005 Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou. I really appreciate your help. Sharon
