Horizontal scroll bar in Portal - possible?

Featured Replies

Is possible to have horizontal scroll bar in Portal? Native options are not providing horizontally scrolling...but my hope is that here is someone who knows the trick. Thanks!

I don't believe you can have a "true" horizontal scroll bar but you can script a button that will go to the next 1-2-3 or more portal rows, thus emulating what a scroll bar would do. You could shape and put this button anywhare you like. You could use arrows ( <, <<, >. >> [sorry but for speed I used the signs instead of arrows here]).

The script could be

go to portal row (current portal row+1) or go to portal row current + N) N being the number of portal rows showing in the layout).

Good luck

(It's never so bad that it couldn't get worse.)

I guess I misunderstood the issue, thinking a scroll bar that is positioned horzontally to scroll downward. seeing the attachment, all I can say is, as my daughter says, "sweet!"

Hi Oldsneekers,

Actually, you weren't that far off the mark, the only thing in my post that is built into FM, is the Table View. The others are workarounds to resemble and kind of work like.

I agree with the others who posted that this is a matter of educating the client about Databases, and getting them to think outside the box of a Spread Sheet.

I have always maintained that you use the Application for what it was intended, and that some products do it better than others. On a personal note, it took me 10 years to convince my best friend that there were better tools for spreadsheets and database than Works.

Thanks for help guys!

But, I want that horizontally scrolling exactly the same as it works for vertically. The point is that I have to place too many fields on a Portal. That means - I have to deal with huuuuge Portal. Indeed, Portals seem to be used under the so many limitations of FileMaker side.
