swf Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 I am running FM server on windows xp. It is a brand new dedicated machine which only has xp and fm server. I have set fm server to backup nightly to the hard drive. However, it copies over the old version every day so I have at most 1 backup copy. I would like to copy the backup daily to another directory (even another drive) and change the name. eg. file is database.fp7. Copies to C:fmdatabackup daily. Now I want to copy each day and make database080405.fp7 and database080305.fp7 and database080205.fp7 and place these in D:fmdatabackup. I would like to keep this as simple as possible. Willing to write a small script but limited experience. Thanks
Jukkie Posted August 5, 2005 Posted August 5, 2005 Hello swf, If you are running the databases for business I would recommand Easybackup. It's a online backup service which keep standaard 30 copies of your databases. It runs automatically They Monitoring the backup every day Your data is save (encrypted) offsite It is using a smart way of backup. After you made your first backup it will do next backup only the changes whitin the database. This reducesses the size up to 95%. So it only send a little bit information over the internet and merge the information to the full version. If you want to know more about this solutions please contact us at [email protected] or call us +31 342461177. We can give you a trial version. It runs 30 day's. Greetings Jukkie
DykstrL Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Here's how I do backups for my server: I have 2 internal drives - one for OS and one for FMS and data files. FMS backsup to a folder on the OS drive nightly. I then have Task Scheduler copy the files to an external drive in specific folders. I have folders for every day for 4 weeks worth of backups. It takes a while to setup the Task Scheduler tasks, but it works very nicely.
Wim Decorte Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Have a look in the downloads section of my website. I wrote an article about this a short while ago. www.connectingdata.com
Sergeant Ron Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Perhaps you can create 7 different folders Monday thru Sunday. Then schedule 7 seperate backups each scheduled to backup once per week. Each day will then backup into a seperate folder. Similar to what DykstrL was saying except you can use FM Server to do your backing up.
