I converted my windows FM 4.0 database file into a FM 7.0 file. Now I cannot access the file because the password is incorrect. Upon opening the file, I get a dialog box with my name and an empty password box. I have read a previous post with this type of issue and the response revealed enter "Admin" which is the default password. My 4.0 database file has three passwords assigned to it and I tried all of them with no luck.

I would appreciate any help you could give me.

In FM7, passwords are case sensitive where in previous versions they were not. Check the original FM4 file for the case of the master password and try that in the converted solution. Also, in converted solutions, it is not necessary to use an account name; the password alone should work (you should of course change this after logging in successfully by giving the converted accounts a proper name.)

Hey Lee,

The "Admin" account is created by default for new files, but for converted files the old password is used as the account name. This would obviously be a security problem if FM7 required you to type that password in the account field where the text is readable. So the account name is optional in converted solutions, but it's recommended that real account names be substituted in for those password-account names ASAP.

Hi Mike,

It is my understanding that if the old files didn't contain user id or passwords, then FM would use "Admin" when converting the files.

Thanks Lee, that's a good clarification. Yes, if the original file has no

password, a new account named "Admin" will be created during conversion.

Hopefully one of these ideas will work for SteveS.
