Hi all

A have a portal to view welders repair rate for the years. I sort the records by year but the portal show the records in random order. I even tried sorting the portal manual but nothing changes. Any ideas why the portal does not sort.

I think you missed assigning the sort sequence to the relationship that you are display the portal records for. A relationship does not have to have asort order, but you need one for this.

You can't manually sort related records in a portal (or the related file) to make them list up in that sort order, you must specify the sort sequence when defing the relationship. It's on the bottom right of the "edit relationship" dialog box.

You can also define a sort order for the portal, which will override the sort order defined for the relationship.

The default sort order is record creation order. Filemaker never shows records in random order.

Also make sure your Year is a number, not text. Numbers as text sort by text rules, e.g. 11 comes before 2.
