xochi Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I've been having server crashing issues (related to Apple Remote Desktop crashing, but that's another topic) that have left me with a big corrupted file. This file would crash FM7 using the "Recover" command. However, under FM8 the recover command worked successfully. So, if you have a corrupted data file that can't be recovered FM7, you may want to try FM8.
xochi Posted September 16, 2005 Author Posted September 16, 2005 Update: my recovered file seems healthy after much testing. The only weird thing is that a couple of text fields had their Time format change to something seemingly random. This could be a FM7/FM8 issue?
Lee Smith Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Do not continue to use a file once it has been Recovered, other than to export your data to a text file (Tab, Comma, etc. Delimited) for import into your pristine back up copy of your file. Lee
Zero Tolerence Posted September 16, 2005 Posted September 16, 2005 Lee is right, I've had some very strange issues when working from a recovered file. Its best to re-import it into a clean file.
xochi Posted September 16, 2005 Author Posted September 16, 2005 Re: using a recovered file. I think everyone agrees its a bad idea in FM6. Some folks think so in FM7, I wonder what the consensus will be in FM8? Also, FM7 introduced the new "Optimize" and "Compact" features in FM Developer. I wonder what the "best practices" are for using these features...
