Newbies acktom Posted November 3, 2005 Newbies Posted November 3, 2005 Good Day All - We access a listing service who uses FileMaker Pro. We use Mac's and Win XP PCs. Some of our Mac's have a major problem accessing the website. All XP PCs work fine and most of our Mac's work fine, but a few will not load properly. We've tried Safari and Internet Explorer...same problem. Is there something we are missing? Is there a File Association, Extension, or plug-in we should be using??? ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Thx, Acktom
Garry Claridge Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Is the database being accessed via Instant Web Publishing (IWP) or Custom Web Publishing (CWP)? Are all of the computers on the same network? Are they all the same version of Mac OS? Is the server reaching the maximum number of connections/users? Is the problem manifesting as a non-connection? FM just acts as a Web Server serving HTML and Javascript, hence no browser Plug-ins etc are needed. It may be serving on Port 80, Port 591, or any other Port. Good Luck. Garry
stanley Posted November 3, 2005 Posted November 3, 2005 Acktom: In addition to Garry's questions, I wonder exactly what you're seeing when you say they "won't load properly". What's happening on the screen then? -Stanley
Newbies acktom Posted November 4, 2005 Author Newbies Posted November 4, 2005 Garry - in response to your questions (appreciate the help) *I'm not sure. but I believe they are using CWP *Computers are on several networks. Some have problems, some are fine. *Same verion of Mac OS *Server not reaching max users. Happens if only one connection is made. *Non-Connect would be most accurate. When going to the site, may not fully load or it may take several minutes to load. The Mac in the next office may connect with no prob at the same time. Could it be a Java issue? Thx, Acktom
Garry Claridge Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 FM dosn't use Java (if using CWP, Java Applets could be embedded in pages by the developer). Some Javascript (very different to Java) may exist in the served pages. A Javascript should be consistant across browser, unless Javascript is disabled in a browser. Make sure the latest update for the version of FM is installed. Problems with http headers have existed! If you are using Safari you can use the "Activity" window to check what is loading. You can also open the Javascript console to check for errors. Does it happen with both Safari and Firefox? Good Luck. Garry
